TANGLE LIBRARY - But wait there's more...

In case you didn't know... I have an APP! (If really, you didn't know - you can read the post, HERE).

Wednesday, Feb. 5 was supposed to be the day the App goes to its regular price of $4.99. BUT - since it is also the day that the first in-app purchase is available... we decided to extend the special intro price by one day.

SO - for one more day - you can download Tangle Library for just $1.99.
But wait there's more...
You can get the second pack of tangles for another $1.99.
Then, for only $4...  you will have 80 glorious tangles to play with on your iPhone or iPad! Yippee!

And believe me, it is really cool to keep scrolling through tangles, more tangles, MORE tangles. Breathe... And the third set will be out as soon as the Apple store approves that pack... 120 tangles OMG!

Phew.

I forgot what I wanted to tell you...?

Ah - Tangle Library has been getting really nice reviews, well, except for one... and Ian and I both wish there were some way to contact people who have something to say/complain about. [If they really hate it, we'd be happy to refund their money]. If you have feedback, Tangle Library has a Facebook page, and Ian keeps an eye on that for questions, etc. I know I shouldn't read the reviews, but I honestly want to make sure we are giving people what they want.

I've been a tech-geek all my life (Timex-Sinclair anyone?), but except for some experience with Logo as a kid and programming my own Adventure games... my geek is mostly in the design area. I have learned a lot about Apps and have a huge respect for their developers now! Did you know Developers are, like, you know, real people!?

Ian has sent me links to all kinds of articles about the world of App design and marketing. It makes my head spin. (I just like to make stuff!) But he explained about iPhone versus Android apps. We have had SO many requests from people for an Android App! In order to create one - we would first need to HIRE (pay for) an Android App Developer. Android Apps do not tend to pay their developers much either. So when we look at the price of an App in the App store, we think "wow - that's expensive! Those people must be raking it in!" Not so. Don't forget "fees". I don't know exactly how it works for the Apps, but I can give you an example with the ebooks. The special deal I did at Christmas offering The Bauble Tree for just $1? PayPal took .30 from each of those. And that is just for processing. Then there are hosting fees... etc.

Also, an Android App would need to be designed from scratch and for a number of different devices with different screens. And lastly, the number of people who use, and are willing to pay for, Android Apps is very small in comparison to Apple Apps. That said... if you or someone you know, is a fabulous Android App Developer with a very high level of quality control and customer pleasing qualities... PLEASE contact Ian ASAP! ;-)

Speaking of Ian, I asked him if he had anything that I could show you to help you visualize what goes into building an App. Here is what he sent me:

Isn't that interesting? It looks like a mind-map to me - or the way I remember building a relational database. This next one is kind of intimidating:

It also shows the page in the App where you can get the new tangle packs.

Speaking of which... in case you have never done this before... you need to purchase and download the Tangle Library App FIRST.

You can also find it by searching in the App store for "Tangle Library". If the App you see has a different name... it's a different App.   ;-D

THEN, you can purchase the additional packs of tangles from INSIDE the App. When you are IN the App, you will see an icon on the bottom of the screen... looks like a tag or some-such-thing. When you click on that, it will show you which packs are available for purchase. You click on the one(s) you want, enter your Apple ID, and then it will download the new tangles right into Tangle Library. It takes a few minutes to download, so don't panic.

Note: If you already OWN Tangle Library - make sure that you UPDATE the App from within the App Store on your device . THEN you will see the little tag icon at the bottom of your Tangle Library screen.

As you accumulate more tangles, make use of the "Star" function. Each tangle has a little white star on the top border. Let's say you are working on a birthday present for a friend who loves the ocean. You scroll through the tangles and click the star on every tangle you think looks ocean-y. Then you can "filter" them so only the starred tangles show. Ah, focus, lovely!

Alrighty? Now go make something! :-)

  1. Ian did an *awesome* job with the app and should be thanked many times! And thank you so much, Sandy, for putting your beautiful work into an app - the whole package is really stunning.

  2. Love the app, and I would love to have more tangles included. However, try as I might, I can't find any "tag" at the bottom of the page except the one that takes me to the list of your wonderful packs of tangle cards, which link to your page. (I have the cards, thanks.) I've checked for updates to the app, and it doesn't seem to need any. Perhaps you can include a "screen shot" in a future message that shows how to add tangle. Love to buy them, if I could.

  3. Yes, I would buy the second pack also, but it doesn't show on my iPad or iPhone?

  4. Sorry to confuse people! February 5th is tomorrow. The in-App purchases will be available tomorrow. :-/ I wanted to make sure everyone who had not already downloaded the original Tangle Library could get it at the $1.99 price. I'm not sure how I should have reworded that... but most people will see this post tomorrow, so maybe it won't be a big problem.

    1. Thanks for clearing that up! That's what I thought at first, but then I re-read it and changed my mind. Does that mean that tomorrow, when the next Tangle set is available, the tag icon will appear? Looking forward to it, because I love the app already!

  5. I cannot find the "tag" on the bottom to purchase the additional tangles (from iphone). Do you have a screenshot(s) on how to find it?

  6. Hi Sandy...I have also purchased Tangle Library. I never could resist a sale. Even though I already own two of your books. I think this is such a wonderful way to keep tangles at hand and a great way to organize them. I am starting to take photos of my more complicated step outs with my iPad so that I have those with me. I can take the photo right off my computer screen! I'll write back after I have had time to look over the new app...give you my personal review. I see a lot of folks wish there were more than 40!

  7. I just bought the second pack. This will be so handy for CZT 20 in June. Thank you Sandy and Ian.

  8. On my iPad, I had to go to the App store and "update" my Tangle Library before the purchase link on the bottom would appear. Hope that helps everyone get more of these wonderful step-outs!

  9. So excited to hear this! I just shared app 1 info with a friend who downloaded yesterday.. Developing an app does seem amazing and the quality of work that Ian did is stellar. You are both a force! We love it.

  11. OK, after 45 minutes I was able to download your app on my iPhone. As a geek myself (stuck with it tho my irritation factor was high), some things I needed to make my task easier from a PC were the instructions: Open iTunes. Go to iPhone Store. Search for "Zentangle Library." ... the reason I say that is the link provided here took me to an iTunes page that kept telling me I needed to update iTunes. I tried 4 times, but the error kept looping. Finally, I just went to iTunes itself. After getting to the iPhone page, I had to decide what words I needed to use to search for the app. Yes, "Zentangle Library" was appropriate, but I needed to return to your page and hunt for it. To me, a HUGE statement "go to iPhone Store and search for ZENTANGLE LIBRARY" as the very first command would have helped a lot! Bottom line? Don't rely on links to iTunes to behave the way you expect them to behave. BTW I am a girl programmer, tech writer, illustrator geek. Perhaps all of my talents got in the way of my easily finding it . . .

  12. I updated my app and the little "tag" icon was right where you said it would be! Then, all I needed to do was click it and it brought me right to the place for me to easily purchase the new library.

I quickly scanned through all of the tangles, and noticed that a couple (Bannah- all 6- and Hemp- first 2) seemed to be missing images. I didn't check all of the images for each pattern, but these were the 2 that jumped out at me.

Definitely in the mood to tangle today during this snowstorm we're having!

And, now I have my library of books to keep at home, my card sets to put in my "to-go" crafting kit, and my app for whenever the mood strikes! Thanks for feeding my Zentangle habit! It's a good habit to have :)

  13. I always buy your stuff, Sandy, because you inspire me. Love your chatty blog, hooted at your forgetting what you were going to tell us, and your invitation to us to go create something is just what I needed to encourage me to pick up the pen again. I've set it aside for the past year although I keep up with what is going on in the CZT world and I especially enjoy watching your progress. You can know I'm in your cheering section. Thanks for your splendid art and constant encouragement.

  14. I had purchased the Zentangle Library a few weeks ago when you first blogged about it. Today I went to purchase the second one. I was able to load the second one, but it came as a separate group called doddles. And the lay out is not the same. Is there anything I can do to "fix" this tomorrow? Thanks for your help. Kathie

    1. If you went directly to the app store, I think you bought a different product, and not Sandy's 2nd library (I saw it yesterday and almost did the same thing!). You have to buy the 2nd library from within Sandy's app and then you'll get the right one.

  15. Thanks, Sandy! I got the app earlier and just got thee update with no problems! Lovett it!

  16. WILL THE NEW SET OF TANGLES BE PUBLISHED WHERE THOSE OF US WHO ARE LESS TECHNOLOGICALLY INCLINED WILL BE ABLE TO PURCHASE A SET OF CARDS TO GO WITH THE FIRST TWO "DECKS"? IN SHORT, WILL THEY BE PUBLISHED BY DESIGN ORIGINALS? I HOPE SO! THANKS.

    1. Yes! If you aren't into the tech-stuff. You can get all these tangles in the Tangle Card packs (120 tangles) at my shop: www.Bumblebat.com or directly from Design Originals and even on Amazon. Although Amazon doesn't seem to have the third pack...?

    2. Hi - I went to the Design Originals website and they don't show a third set of your tangle cards. What will they be called, and will they go on Amazon at some point? I also did not see the third pack of cards on your website? Maybe I'm doing something wrong - it's possible! Thanks.

  17. Developer here - an update/warning on this; I made some errors when I submitted the in app purchase, and as a result, 4 of the tangles are missing steps (or the steps have visual defects). I've submitted a fix, but due to Apple's approval process it won't go out for about a week.

So you can get the IAP now, but some of the step outs will be messed up. As soon as the fix is in you'll be able to update your app and everything will be back to normal.

The error was definitely fully my fault; the images Sandy gave me were perfect, but got messed up in translation. I'm really sorry that this happened, and apologize to anyone who was affected.

    1. Thanks for the update, Ian! And, no worries! There are plenty of tangles to play with in the meantime! You and Sandy put together a great little app, so congrats to you both!

  18. Excellent App! Thanks for making this available, I downloaded the app and the extra pack last night and really enjoyed looking at your reference material on my iPad while I sat on the couch with pen and paper. Your app makes the process very portable for me. Thanks!

  19. I have got the Tangle Library app which came through to all my apple devices but when I added on the IAP, it only shows on the iPad I downloaded it to initially. Would you have to purchase the IAP for each device? Not sure I want to do that!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Nope - you only have to purchase it on one device, but you have to let the other device know. Here's how Ian explained it:
On the purchase page there's a link at the bottom that says 'restore previous purchases'. Tapping that will sync the purchase from the other device.

If you were to click the 'purchase' link, iTunes would tell you that you already own it, and you'd be prompted to activate it again (for free). So there's no way to get double charged.

    2. Thanks Sandy, I will give that a go.

    4. Dearest Sandy, many thanx for explaining why I can't get the tangle library on my windows 8 phone or tablet. I was soooooo disappointed !!! it is such an innovative and practical application. I taught school for over 20 + years and to be able to have all your resources at your fingertips, plus the manner in which you've utilized them is mind boggling!!! How lovely to be able to see how to do a tangle, how I have worked it in a zentangle and how other tangles are used in sync with it is really captivating. I am waiting with bated breath for an android version. No matter how I have been "organizing " my stuff it cannot begin to compare with the version you have devised. Just the idea of setting aside and choosing those tangles thematically is so rich with possibilities!!! Anxiously, Marky Pipe Creek, Texas
